Mt. Juliet Summer Must-Do
June 22, 2015
If you love the outdoors, you’ll be happy to know that June is Great Outdoors Month! Long Hunter State Park is a beautiful place to plan an adventure. Go hiking, fishing, camping, boating, and much more in this beautiful park.
Mount Juliet gets a little hot in the summer, enjoy the breeze off J Percy Priest Lake to stay cool while you explore the trails. Then enjoy the shade for the trees for a picnic. If you’re looking for a different view you can rent a canoe at Couchville Lake on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
This Friday, June 26th at 7:30 pm Long Hunter State Park is hosting a campfire cookout. This is a favorite on our Must-Do list for the summer. At the campfire cookout you’ll explore how different people cook over open flame. It is being held in group camp 2, located down the gravel road next to the office building. Parking is at the office.
What do you like to cook over open flame? One of our favorites is Campfire Roasted Apples! These are an easy and yummy dessert. All you need are apples, cinnamon, sugar and butter. Core and slice your apples so that they can still fold up to the apple shape. I use an apple corer but a sharp paring knife will do the trick. Transfer the apple to a foil square and wrap around the bottom to help keep the apple shape Sprinkle sugar and cinnamon on the apple slices and then add about 1 TBS of cut butter slices in the center of the apple. Wrap the foil around the apple so it forms a secure package. Cook in the campfire embers for approximately 12 minutes. Roll it out of the fire and let it cool for a couple minutes and then dig in and enjoy!
Bring and share your favorite goodies to roast over the fire. Enjoy this Must-Do at Long Hunter State Park with the family.
